The Funny About Money

Hello and happy Saturday!

Recently I heard about a discussion that a gentleman had with his wife about finances. It seems that his bride is the one who handles all of the income and expenses for the household. According to her calculations, $100.00 is all that her husband needs to live on per week. That all seems fine to him being that he never spends that much in the period of a week. However, the contention that the husband has is whenever there’s leftover money it doesn’t get rolled into the next seven days.

So to help himself out on the financial end of things, he came up with a brilliant idea. At the start of the week he asked his wife to fill the gas tank in his vehicle when she was going to use it. She obliged and all seemed to go well until it came to allowance time. As the bride kissed her husband goodbye the next morning, she notified him that he had only $60.00 dollars remaining for the week.

Confused, he said, “Why the low amount? I didn’t spend any of my money yet.”

“Oh, yes you did!” she retorted.

“When?” he said.

“Remember that you asked me to put gas in your truck yesterday, that’s just what I did!”

“But how could you charge me when you used your credit card?” he replied.

“Oh, that’s where your wrong, I also have a credit card that takes money out of your account,” she said with a smirk on her face.

At that point the man raised the white flag and surrendered.

Proverbs 14:12 in the New International Version says, “There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death.” In the story mentioned above, that husband thought he had figured out the perfect way to get ahead financially with his wife, but that’s not how things worked out. In a similar way, you and I can do what we think is right, but if our plans are contradictory to God’s Word we’ll pay for it in the end. Let’s choose instead to live according to God’s Word and then we will have no embarrassing moments or regrets. That’s where I am at, how about you?

Blessings,

Pastor Tom
