Outdoor Service Continues

There will be two canopy tents, each located on the east and west side of the parking lot close to the building. Chairs will be set up so that people can practice social distancing.
As always you can stay in your vehicle if you so desire.

What Are You Building On?

Back in the summer of 1978, when I was a teenager, I attended a birthday party of one of my relatives. After most of the festivities were done and over with, one of the young guests decided to play in the sandbox.

Her goal was to build a sandcastle; her weapons of choice, a pail and shovel. With skill and determination this 11 year old took her shovel and packed the sand in the pail. After the mission was accomplished, she carefully flipped the pail over onto her worksite. Slowly she lifted the pail. Unfortunately much to her surprise and frustration some of the sand didn’t cohere, which caused the giant castle to fall and crumble.

In her anger, she put down the tools and swore. Now, I wouldn’t remember this event, except for the fact that the party host was filming this without her knowledge. So after she swore, she slowly looked up and realized she was being filmed. At that moment, her facial expression went from anger, to guilt, to happy.

Her actions remind me of Jesus’ words in Matthew 7:24-27 – 24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash (NIV)

You and I have one life to live. In this life, storms will happen. Perhaps you are going through a storm right now. Remember, if we obey Jesus’ words as laid out in the gospels, He will help us come through those storms. And as we follow the Lord, one day we will inherit our everlasting home in Heaven.

God bless you,

Pastor Tom
